Plan Your Visit

When you arrive

The entrance to the gallery on Canada Games Way has a ramp with a handrail located on the right side.

There are 2 sets of power doors before entering the lobby. The power door button is located to the right side of the doors. Both sets of doors have pull handles.

Visitor Service Desk

The visitor front desk has varying counter heights, shelves to display objects, and the parking QR code sign to scan for parking.

Backpacks and large purses are not allowed in the gallery. The front of house staff can store these items behind the reception desk for you.

Our front of house staff will welcome you at the Visitor Service Desk in the lobby directly across from the entrance. They are available to answer any questions.

Coat Check

A large open closet area with racks and hangers for coats and hooks for bags around the perimeter of the room

There is a coat rack room located next to the bathrooms in the lobby area.

It is recommended to bring a jacket in case you feel cold in the gallery, especially in the winter. If you decide that the temperature is fine and you don’t want to carry your jacket with you throughout your visit, you can leave your jacket in the coat rack room.

Quiet Area

Our “quiet area” is currently closed. We are unsure of the date that this will be reopening. Please chat with our Front Desk staff if you need a quiet space during your visit.

Stairs & Elevators

Our Learning & Engagement space is located on the 2nd floor.

Stairs

The stairs are located in the Rustad Galleria which is located down a long hallway to the right of the entrance.

There are 48 stairs.

Elevator

The elevator is located in the Rustad Galleria which is located down a long hallway to the right of the entrance.

The elevator can be operated by the public.

Washrooms

All our washrooms are open to the public and are gender-neutral.

Main Floor washrooms

There are 2 washrooms on the main floor. The main floor washrooms are directly past the Visitor Service Desk and the gallery shop.

The main floor washroom has 3 stalls, 2 sinks, and 1 towel dispenser.

There is one (1) accessible stall with metal grab bars in this washroom.

This washroom has a diaper changing station.

2nd Floor Washrooms

Another gender-neutral and accessible washroom on the 2nd floor next to a water fountain and piano.

This is a single washroom upstairs at the landing, situated close to the elevator and stairs. This single washroom is gender-neutral and accessible with metal grab bars. There is also a water fountain that has a second waterspout that makes it easy to fill up bottles.

There is a 2nd single gender-neutral washroom at the far end of the Learning & Engagement Space which is also gender-neutral and fully accessible.

Exhibition Spaces

There are 3 exhibition spaces.

Occasionally, there will be some noises in the galleries with films playing without headphones or school groups exploring the gallery. The galleries can also contain some bright lights.

There are often benches without backs or armrests located throughout the exhibition spaces to offer you a chance to rest.

Main Exhibition Space

The main gallery has a seat in the middle of the space and the installation pictured includes an object on a plinth in the center of the room.

The Main Exhibition Space entrance is located to the right of the Visitor Service Desk.

The main exhibition space contains 2 large rooms that are connected. The ceilings are high so there may be an echo in the rooms.

Rustad Galleria

The light-filled Galleria corridor has art installed all along the wall.

This exhibition space is an extension of the lobby to the right of the entrance.

The Sculpture Court

The door leading out to the Sculpture Court with an accessible ramp and steps available to get out to it.

This is an outdoor space that is unsheltered and exposed to the elements that displays large sculptural work. The entrance to the Sculpture Court is through the Wild Side space on the upper floor. There are both stairs and a ramp going out into this space.

Programming Space

The Learning & Engagement space is located on the 2nd floor.

This space is not always open to the public. If it is open or you are attending a program, you can take either the stairs or the elevator to this space.

This is a large and open space full of tables and stools across from the upstairs landing.

Because of the high ceilings, it can become noisy if there are many people upstairs.

There are a number of rooms off this space which contain art supplies used for the programs, as well as toys and books that can be used.

The back area blocked with a black gate is for staff offices and not open to the public.

The Wild Side

This play area for kids is located at the end of the Atrium on the second floor, beside the door to access The Sculpture Court.

This family-friendly space is open to all but mainly geared towards children. It is filled with creative books, building and sculpting toys, a light table, and other activities that encourage curiosity, exploration and learning through play.

Tours

Exhibitions tours are free and happen every 2nd Sunday of the month from 1pm to 2pm.

These tours are led by exhibition facilitators and present opportunities for exploration and questions.

The tours are interactive so the facilitators may ask questions about your thoughts and feelings around artworks, but speak up only when you want to.

Gallery Shop

The shop is located in a large, light-filled space that has plenty of space between shelves. A canoe hangs from the ceiling.

The shop is located in the gallery’s lobby, directly past the Visitor Service Desk.

The shop has a wide selection of artworks, catalogues, books, jewelry, and more. Most of the items for sale are made by local and regional artists.


Food & Drinks

No food or drinks in the exhibition spaces. An accessible water fountain is available on the second floor directly next to the elevator and set of stairs. Please check in with the front desk visitor representative for some close-by restaurant suggestions around downtown Prince George.


Seating

When entering the gallery, there is a seating space to the left. Seating in this lounge space includes a number of stools and a couch with arms. There are a number of wooden armless and backless benches located in the exhibition spaces. Upstairs in the Wild Side and programming space, there are many stools.


Service Animals

Service animals are welcome at the gallery. There are outdoor green spaces for service animals surrounding the entire building, including two steps outside of the front entrance. There is also a water bowl offered outside of the gallery during the summer season.


Financial Accessibility

Access to exhibitions is free everyday, although donations appreciated.

We offer a complimentary Individual Memberships for Indigenous Peoples.


Scent Policy

Please be aware that the gallery does not have a scent policy at this time. Scented products are currently being used for the washroom soap and as cleaning products.


Over-stimulation

There is no specific room for individuals who get overstimulated at the gallery. A suggestion is to head to the lounge next to the lobby, as it offers a seated area that is usually not occupied.
