Heru Japra Art

Heru “Japra” Pramono

My Indonesian culture is rich and vast. As a Canadian newcomer, I desire cultural exchange with artists and the public. Art is a vital way to learn about one another.

As an artist, I see the beauty in everything around me. I hope my art can help others recognize this beauty. Each culture has a particular aesthetic and I am interested in how Indonesian and Canadian artists see similarly, and also see differently.

I have often painted traditional Indigenous dress, stories, and typical scenes from village life. Due to colonization, traditional culture/tradition is diminishing. I want to capture something which may one day be lost.

My paintings are usually oil on canvas or board. In my painting, you will see the influence of Dutch Masters, and my own Indonesian Indigenous culture. Art is my way to express the sacred. My soul interacts with the subject, whether human or landscape.
