A painting of two people playing hockey.

Clark uses tropes of ice hockey and table hockey games to explore our relationship to this sport and the odd way in which it has become an all but sanctioned vehicle for violence. Clark’s paintings incorporate articulated elements that viewers can activate to cause a clash with a stick, or instance, or a throw a punch. Scheduled during the hockey playoffs, at a time when hockey preoccupies the lives of many Canadians, this exhibition addresses issues of identity on numerous levels and transcends the typically non-porous boundary perceived between art and sport.
