Up Around the Bend

Up Around the Bend presents a patchwork, gouache-painted, folk iconography of Northwestern BC, where humanity and the wilderness intersect. The works illustrate a folk art-styled trip along Highway 16 in northwest British Columbia, a remote region where Emily Wilson has lived, worked, and travelled extensively. A place where she considers very much to be her “home.” Wilson’s works are a culmination of fragmented memories: images of highway billboards, truck stops, and the vast nature and mountains, while travelling through this remote region.
