REDRESS: Sacred Obligation

July 7, 2019
October 6, 2019
During the Truth and Reconciliation Commissionโ€™s enquiry into the policies and operations of Canadian residential schools, more than 6,200 statements were recorded by survivors describing a nightmare lived by many Indigenous people. Two Rivers Gallery acknowledges this terrible history. Working with independent Indigenous Curator, Rose Spahan we invited Indigenous artists, predominantly from BC, to share their views on reconciliation. This exhibition focuses on the residential school experience and its resulting legacy expressed through Indigenous voices. Redress! Sacred Obligation, embodies recollections, assertions of strength, defiance and empowerment expressed in a broad range of art forms and media. It aspires to be a step forward in the journey towards healing and drawing-together at the core of the reconciliation process. For the duration of this exhibition, admission will be by donation. Admission is always free to those who self-identify as Indigenous.ย
