The Prince George Paintings

July 19, 2015
Much lauded Saskatchewan painter David Thauberger, CM, SOM, RCA, is well known for his work focused on Saskatchewan communities and their vernacular architecture. In the 1990’s he was commissioned by a collector and former Prince George resident to produce a series of paintings of historic buildings in and around Prince George. This series, known as The Prince George Paintings, has been borrowed to mark the occasion of Prince George’s 100th anniversary. It includes paintings of buildings – such as the London Hotel and Rainbow Barn, that once sat adjacent to the airport – some of which no longer exist. Last Load Grand Trunk Pacific, was shown in Chosen: Your Selections from our Permanent Collection in 2013 and voted as Prince George’s most popular painting in our collection. We are thrilled to reunite this painting with the rest of the work from the series in its first-ever public exhibition.
