Canadian Visionary

April 13, 2018
July 8, 2018
A member of the Group of Seven, Lawren Stewart Harris (1885–1970) was one of the most important figures in the history of Canadian art. After settling in Vancouver in 1940, he was a central figure in the artistic life of British Columbia. Through both his life and work, Harris helped establish an identity for Canadian art and was a driving force in the development of modernist painting. This exhibition focuses on artwork from between 1906 and 1960 and includes artwork on paper, oil sketches and paintings. Lawren Harris: Canadian Visionary is organized and circulated by the Vancouver Art Gallery with the generous support of the Killy Foundation and is curated by Ian M. Thom, Senior Curator-Historical, Vancouver Art Gallery. (Needs funded by gov. of Canada logo.)
