Two New Exhibitions Explore Eco-Anxiety in Creative Ways

Dismantled Worlds

Two Rivers Gallery is thrilled to introduce Dismantled Worlds, a solo exhibition featuring work by Alberta- and New York based artist Jude Griebel. A master of blurring the line between fact and fantasy, Griebel creates imaginative works that give viewers a new way to look at our ever-changing environment and the role we play within it. Dismantled Worlds will feature work from the last several years of his career and will be on view at Two Rivers Gallery from July 28th, to October 8th.

Griebel’s work ranges from towering sculptures to sprawling dioramas, all of which are bursting with textures and details that beg a closer look. Viewers will find creatures made of seashells keeping watch over the Gallery and impossible plant life blooming from the ashes of a city ruined by fire. Two of the works featured in this exhibition are being shown for the very first time, having been completed a few short months ago.

Griebel finds the balance of dark reality and humour, giving visitors a playful entrance into the much needed conversation about our changing climate. About this exhibition, Acting Curator Kait Herlehy said, “Conversations about climate change can feel heavy and discouraging, and Jude Griebel’s work makes the topic feel a little more playful and approachable. During a summer heavy with discussions of forest fires and our changing environment, I can’t imagine a better time for this exhibition or a more suitable artist to welcome into our community to lead the discussion.”
