Two Rivers Gallery offers a variety of programs for school classes.

Our current programs are designed for Kindergarten through Grade 8.

Bring your class to the Gallery for a tour of the exhibitions or sign up for an art-intensive lesson.

Exhibition Tours

$6 per student*, 1.5 hours

Learn about contemporary Canadian art and artists through Two Rivers Gallery’s exhibition tours. Our interactive tours encourage student participation by asking questions, inviting conversations about the art and providing hands-on activities in the exhibitions, followed by an exhibition-inspired art activity upstairs in the atrium.

Exhibitions change every ten or twelve weeks so visit the Gallery three or four times each year to expose your students to a variety of artists and art.

Art Explorations

$8-$10 per student*, 1.5 hours

Visit us at the Gallery with your class and create some art! Price includes all materials and facilitator. Lessons fit within the BC Curriculum Guidelines.

Kindergarten – Grade 3 Programs

Drawing and the Elements of Art

Kindergarten – Grade 3

Students in grade K-3 will explore line and colour through reading, The Pencil by Allan Ahlberg & Bruce Ingman. They will be introduced to, and discuss the elements of art, and explore the expression of their own imaginary worlds through drawing. Students will engage with concepts such as, colour, value,  line, shape, form,  space, and texture. Students will have the opportunity to express these ideas in our drawing studio activity, utilizing pencils, pencil crayons, pastels, and sharpies.

Grade 1 – Grade 8 Programs

Character Design

Grade 1 – Grade 8

Students will develop their knowledge of visual analysis and storytelling through reading Tea Dragon Society by Kay O’Neill, discussing the design of characters in this book, and designing their own characters. Students will be encouraged to discuss connections of their own favourite characters, and what makes them their favourite characters, throughout the program. Students will engage with concepts such as colour, language of shapes, silhouettes, and symbolism. Students will have the opportunity to express these ideas in our character design studio activity,  utilizing a planning worksheet, pencils, pencil crayons, and sharpies.

Weaving

Grade 1 – Grade 7

Students in grades K-3 will develop their knowledge of visual analysis and storytelling through reading, Rainbow Weaver by Linda Elovitz Marshal. They will be introduced to and discuss weaving and fibre arts, relating these ideas back to the book they read, and applying their learning to an artwork of their own. Students will engage in concepts such as the history of weaving, the significance of weaving in different cultures, including Indigenous cultures, and using sustainable materials for art. Students will have the opportunity to express these ideas in our paper plate weaving studio activity utilizing yarn and paper plates.

Grade 4 – 7 Programs

Drawing and the Elements and Principles of Art

Grade 4 – 7

Students in Grades 4-7 will explore world-building using the elements and principles of art through Yayoi Kusama’s work. We will learn about the artist and consider how she transformed her life, and built new worlds through the practice of drawing. Students will be introduced to and discuss the elements and principles of art and consider how Yayoi utilizes these elements and principles in her own artistic oeuvre. Students will have the opportunity to express these ideas in our drawing studio activity, utilizing pencils, pencil crayons, pastels and sharpies.

$8 per student

* Your school will be charged for a minimum of 15 students
