November 7 to December 22, 1996
Some of the bears in the exhibition combine both doll-making and bear-making, having dressed cloth bodies with bear faces. Heather’s bears are somewhat whimsical. Her aim is to create that special bear that will become a member of the family. Deanna’s bears vary from the 1900s reproductions to dressed, soft-bodied bears. She combines all her sewing, quilting and artistic expression in her creations. Bonnie uses her skills at fibre-knitting, needlework, weaving, spinning and sewing to make mohair bears. Elaine’s bears are classical in form, with delightfully sweet, shy faces. These are bears that are sure to become the heirlooms of tomorrow.
